Conservative MP Sajid Javid has announced that he will not seek re-election in the next general election.

The MP for Bromsgrove has stated: “Being the local MP and serving in Government has been the privilege of my life and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to serve.”

According to Javid’s letter to the city’s Conservative Association chairman, Paul Uppal, the MP’s decision will not be the end of his activity in Parliament.

Javid stated that his decision was largely influenced by continuous Labour Party support and a Conservative Party review. The review has resulted in 11 other Tory MPs to also announce decisions to not run for re-election.

Mr Javid worked under former Prime Minister Theresa May as home secretary and served as chancellor for Boris Johnson.
