Kanye was born and raised in Chicago, he briefly attended the American Academy of Art and Chicago State University before dropping out at the age of 20 to pursue a career in music. In 2015 he was rewarded an honorary doctorate degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Following his shocking antisemitic outbursts and stating he likes the Nazis; Kanye has been stripped of his honorary degree from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. The decision was made only days after an online petition was created requesting that his degree be revoked due to his current behaviour.

SAIC officials issued the following statement:
“The School of the Art Institute of Chicago condemns and repudiates Kanye West’s (now known as Ye) anti-Black, antisemitic, racist, and dangerous statements, particularly those directed at Black and Jewish communities. Ye’s actions do not align with SAIC’s mission and values, and we’ve rescinded his honorary degree,”

In response to Kanye’s antisemitic remarks and questionable social media posts, The Art Institute of Chicago is not the only organisation that wants to strip Kanye of his prior accomplishments. A change.org petition demanding Kanye West’s musical catalogue to be removed from streaming providers is nearing 75,000 signatures.

However, the disgraced rapper has continued to release music. Kanye shared a video of the new song on Instagram, which has since been removed.

In the track “Someday We’ll All Be Free,” West confronts his controversial views and their repercussions, including his divorce from his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, his antisemitic ideologies, and his distasteful interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

The song opens with “Take it from me, someday we’ll all be free” The song samples Donny Hathaway’s renowned 1973 ballad “Someday We’ll All Be Free,” written by Edward Howard to uplift Donny’s spirit while he was battling with depression and mental health.

Kanye also addresses his recent split from Brazilian supermodel Juliana Nalu in the lyrics ‘Wakin’ up to “I can’t do this anymore” texts (Woo)’. Juliana was driven away by negative news surrounding Kanye. This isn’t the first time Ye has had difficulties in his relationships as a result of his problematic reputation.

Kanye also mentions Janet Jackson, Ice Cube, and his horrific now-deleted antisemitic tweet from 8 October 2022, in which he declared he would be “going death con 3” on Jewish people. And refers to individuals as “Karens” for calling him out.

In the song’s outro, Kanye samples his interview with Alex Jones showing no remorse for his previous comments.
