This flaw has been known to some users for a year now but has not caused much of a controversy. The app begins downloading massive amounts of junk data even in idle. Some user reports have been up to terabytes of useless files. This massive increase in junk files can cause a serious damage on the hard drive and storage spaces of the computer; it can reduce the lifetime of a storage space by 10% if left unchecked

The bug has been successfully recreated by many users across different platforms and hardware, which caused a major concern amongst the big group of Spotify customers that use their computers to listen and stream music.

Spotify has kept their response minimal offering only this statement: “We’ve seen some questions in our community around the amount of written data using the Spotify client on desktop. These have been reviewed and any potential concerns have now been addressed in version 1.0.42, currently rolling out to all users.”

This patch has still not rolled out neither for Mac nor for Windows so users have begun coming up with their own fixes by using manual coding, although an official fix from Spotify would be preferred.
