The Road to Comic Con

MCM Comic Con is set to be taking over the Excel Exhibition Centre for the second time this year from October 25-27th. The event is packed with everything pop culture and has something for people of all ages.

Here is a quick rundown of everything you need to know in the lead up to the event.

What is there?

The halls are split into multiple zones to make it just that bit easier for you:

Cosplay central – this is for cosplayers to change into their outfits or fix any broken parts. There are also panels from cosplayers on the cosplay stage (along with lots of photo opportunities for Instagram).

Pop Asia – this part of the con gives a glimpse into the Japanese, Korean and Asian culture, with its own stage and a variety of stalls.

Comic Village – if you are a comic lover this is the place for you. There are rows of exhibitors selling their work, from individual comics to Marvel.

Author’s corner – in this area, there are guest writers you can meet and discuss all things books and blogs – it is definitely ideal for any avid readers out there.

Which special guests are going to be there?

There are plenty of guests that you can meet for either photo opportunities or autographs, from actors like Simon Pegg and IT’s Sophia Lillis to gaming guests, including Troy Baker and Nolan North.

Tickets to meet them are available online and on the day.

What talks are on?

This weekend will see some exciting panelists hitting different stages around the con, especially on the main stage and centre stage. Fans will be treated to some MCM-exclusive new looks at the new Alex Rider TV series, Apple’s new drama, “See”, and Batman Prequel, Pennyworth among plenty of others.

Can I get merchandise?

Simple answer? Yes. The whole centre is packed full of exhibitors with the latest merchandise. There’s Funko pops, logo tops and plenty more for you to spend away, so it is best to be a bit money-savvy so that your wallet isn’t left empty by the end of the day!

Can I cosplay?

Yes, a lot of people do dress up for the con but it is not compulsory.

These cosplayers have given us their top tips for first-timers:

Elliot, 21: “Have fun. Embrace the atmosphere. And make friends. As Stan Lee would say: ‘Nough said.’”

Jay, 19: “Before the con, look for meet ups with people who are in the same fandoms as you…try not to be shy – go and talk to people – it’s about taking that first step to go and talk to others…stay safe. Don’t go off with people you don’t trust, especially for shoots.”

Beth, 26: “Don’t be nervous to give it a go. Immerse yourself in the environment and the character and just don’t be afraid to have fun!”

How do I get there?

There are two main stations on the Docklands Light Railway that are closest to the centre: Custom House and Prince Regent. The easiest way to get to the line is from Canning Town on the Jubilee.

Are there places to eat?

There usually tends to be food stalls across the halls as well as a variety of food places as a part of the exhibition centre. If you want, you can take your own food too.

Where can I get tickets?

Tickets are available on the site and on the door at a higher price.
