Tom, Dick and…Khaleesi? Unusual baby names are becoming more popular due to successful TV and film released in 2019

Peaky Blinders, Game of Thrones, and lots of new Disney have all burst on to our screens this 2019, giving us more ideas than just sinking a bottle of wine on a quiet night in.

With the influence of celeb superstars like Kim Kardashian, baby name ideas have started to stray from the norm.

Teachers may become tired of having to constantly check the spellings of their students in class and wish for the days Charles, Jane and Karen were the most popular.

Twitter users have expressed their opinions on the new uprising names and some show how a main influence is through the TV and film they watch.

Are we bored of the bog standard names we all know and love? Or do we simply just like the new, almost fictional names more?

Bella Baby are a leading UK online baby store and have concluded some of the top baby names of 2019 influenced by the TV and film we watch.

Using a searchable baby name database, they linked together the names of popular characters and the rise in some unusual names.

“With the influence and inspiration behind baby names constantly evolving, we thought it would be interesting to see just how popular some of the top names from 2019 film and TV were. The results show that traditional names such as ‘Elizabeth’ remain popular choices, however surprisingly unique names such as ‘Aurora’ and Game of Thrones fictional name ‘Khaleesi are also highly ranked. We love the concept of there being potential links with people’s choice of baby name, and their favourite film or TV character, especially the more unusual choices!”
