London\u2019s well-recognised fireworks display marking the New Year \u2013 traditionally held along South Bank \u2013 has been axed once again amid concerns in the latest disruptions caused by the pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will instead be replaced by a \u201cbroadcast spectacular\u201d event to be held in Trafalgar Square and broadcasted Live on both BBC One & livestreamed on BBC iPlayer and will feature a special live choir performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spending the second year without their hallmark NYE event, Londoners are looking forward to the Trafalgar Square event, a ticketed celebration event which will feature live music, stage performers, food stalls and a cinema-style screen displaying the live broadcast feed. Tickets will be awarded to applicants by ballot, further information is yet to be released in regard to the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year BBC broadcasted a series highlighting the main event, hosted at The o2, North Greenwich, and events at London landmarks such as Hyde Park, Marble Arch & Greenwich Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has encouraged everyone to embrace the event and to make use of the city\u2019s bars, clubs & restaurants to celebrate the New Year. Bridges & buildings across London will be illuminated as part of the ‘Let\u2019s Do London Winter Lights\u2019 Season by the Mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst some have criticised the Mayors decision, others are concerned of the possibility of a \u2018Winter Lockdown\u2019 following reports of a \u2018fourth-wave\u2019 in Europe have caused major concerns across the continent, causing for people in the UK to grow increasingly concerned at the prospect of another lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
