It is typically quoted as the priciest place to live in the UK, making it a difficult place for students to reside. Even the cost of food can seem inflated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Millennials love eating in restaurants. According to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/uk.businessinsider.com\/millennials-dining-habits-are-different-2015-3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Business Insider,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> 53 percent of Millennials go out to eat once a week, compared with only 43 percent of those from other generations. But this social hour can add up quite quickly for those living in London, where a<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.workgateways.com\/working-in-the-uk\/cost-of-living\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> meal for two in a mid-price restaurant averages \u00a340.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-14333\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2017\/04\/unnamed-5-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Poppies\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe price of food in London is expensive. Unnecessarily so,\u201d says Westminster student Vickie. \u201cIt\u2019s more reasonable at home in Essex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s very expensive to go out, but I still do,\u201d chimes in Kostas. \u201cI go to Nando\u2019s because it is cheap for what it is.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nando\u2019s may seem inexpensive, but <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nandos.co.uk\/eat\/menu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the cost of a typical meal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is around \u00a310, usually more. When compared to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/national-minimum-wage-rates\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">national minimum wage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which is \u00a35.60 for 18-20 years old, it is quite a pricey plate of chicken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-14332\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2017\/04\/unnamed-4-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Market\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/p>\n<p>American study abroad student Molly O\u2019Brien was shocked by the cost of dining in London. \u201cIt\u2019s much more expensive than I\u2019m used to at home. I definitely prefer to go out, especially to markets, but the cost makes eating at home a better option.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students are spending their pounds on food and are leaving university drowning in debt. According to the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/education-36150276\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">BBC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, university students graduate with the most debt in the entire English speaking world: the average is a staggering \u00a344,000.
