{"id":15136,"date":"2017-10-26T14:40:25","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T13:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=15136"},"modified":"2017-10-26T14:40:25","modified_gmt":"2017-10-26T13:40:25","slug":"mel-b-i-was-drugged-throughout-my-marriage-star-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/mel-b-i-was-drugged-throughout-my-marriage-star-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"Mel B: I was drugged throughout my marriage, star claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>Words: Claudia Jackson<span style=\"font-size: 16px\">\u00a0|\u00a0<\/span>Subbing: Tracey Popoola<\/h6>\n<h3>Former Spice Girl, Mel B, claims she was drugged throughout her marriage, a Los Angeles court has heard as her divorce hearings continue this week.<\/h3>\n<p>Mel B, real name Melanie Brown, allegedly told the court that in addition to the domestic abuse she suffered, she was also drugged by her husband, TV producer Stephen Belafonte.<\/p>\n<p>Belafonte\u2019s lawyer, Phillip Cohen said: \u201cMiss Brown now takes the position that she was drugged by Mr Belafonte throughout the course of their marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this, the star claims that after she was drugged, her estranged husband made videos of her, almost a third of which are supposedly of a sexual nature.<\/p>\n<p>According to Brown\u2019s lawyer, she tried to get out of the marriage for years, but each time Belafonte threatened her with the release of these videos.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/s-nm4kEBdl\/?hl=en&#038;taken-by=officialmelb<\/p>\n<p>The Leeds born star filed for divorce in March. The 42 year old cited \u2018irreconcilable differences\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Belafonte claims that Brown has struggled with cocaine and alcohol addictions for the duration of their marriage. Adding that is has been a \u2018major issue\u2019 for pair.<\/p>\n<p>Since their Las Vegas wedding in 2007, Belafonte says that Brown lead an overly \u2018extravagant\u2019 lifestyle, \u2018wiping out\u2019 the fortune she made after she shot to fame in the early nineties as part of The Spice Girls.<\/p>\n<p>After being granted a restraining order against Belafonte in April, citing domestic abuse. Brown, who now stars as a judge on America\u2019s Got Talent has a long divorce trial ahead of her.<\/p>\n<p>The trail is set to begin on 6 November, with over 50 videos of Brown to be submitted into evidence.
