{"id":24338,"date":"2018-11-02T13:06:32","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T13:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=24338"},"modified":"2018-11-02T13:06:32","modified_gmt":"2018-11-02T13:06:32","slug":"south-western-rail-strike-threatens-twickenham-travel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/south-western-rail-strike-threatens-twickenham-travel\/","title":{"rendered":"South Western Rail strike threatens Twickenham travel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Fans planning on attending England\u2019s first autumn international against South Africa have been told to allow extra time for their journeys owing to industrial action on South Western Rail.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s strike is the first of three days planned this month, as RMT union workers walk out in a continuing dispute over the role of guards on trains.<\/p>\n<p>South Western Rail are planning on running 12 trains an hour from Waterloo to Twickenham and maintaining at least 50% of its normal Saturday services.<\/p>\n<p>However, fans are still being urged to allow for delays during their journeys. Bus services will operate in order to help ferry England fans to the stadium.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement published from their website, the RMT said it was \u201cangry and frustrated that South Western Railway have failed to respond seriously to a union call for talks around the guard guarantee on their trains\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for South Western Rail said: \u201cThe RMT is cynically targeting sports fans and families and friends wanting to attend fireworks displays with their latest strike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s game begins England\u2019s final lap en-route to next year\u2019s World Cup in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Words: George Robson | Subbing: Fiona Patterson<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fans planning on attending England\u2019s first autumn international against South Africa have been told to allow extra time for their journeys owing to industrial action on South Western Rail.
