This work is all about how we and society perceive our looks and our bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the artists have chosen to portray body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). Derrick Santini has donated unseen photos of Lady Gaga, who famously struggled with anorexia and bulimia from the age of 15. He took the pictures in 2009, just before the singer had her big break with Just Dance.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/ss9P-8pFPd\/<\/p>\n<p>Talking about the photos <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/entertainment-arts-46036519\">to the BBC<\/a>, Santini said: \u201cWe pumped up the colours, we went for this very poppy background, these obviously quite full-on outfits.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_24890\" style=\"width: 484px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24890\" class=\"wp-image-24890\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2018\/11\/Gaga-2-ptsml-805x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"603\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-24890\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the never been seen before Gaga photos<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Leigh de Vries has struggled with BDD for more than 25 years. She hopes her art will help people understand the disorder better by allowing them to look through the lens of the sufferer.<\/p>\n<p>Other topics explored by the contributing artists include self-awareness, self-esteem and the beauty in imperfections.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_24893\" style=\"width: 488px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24893\" class=\"wp-image-24893\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2018\/11\/2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"478\" height=\"718\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-24893\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Featured artist Meltem Isik said she explored &#8220;the capability of our bodies to see and be seen&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Bruno Metra and Laurence Jeanson\u2019s creations look at the pressure to fit ideals set by the media. The duo said: \u201cWe are bombarded by images of others. It is an otherness that is inaccessible, an image imposed on us, from which we feel powerless to escape.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are inviting each of our\u00a0models to play a part in a simple experiment: to cut out of a magazine the face of this other and to appropriate it in part.
