The new chairwoman of the <\/b>Parole Board<\/b> has stated it is a \u201csignificant concern\u201d that none of its 240 members are black.<\/b><\/p>\n

Will Aslan, of the <\/span>Parole Board<\/span>,<\/span><\/i> exclusively told the <\/span>Voice of London:<\/span><\/i> \u201cWe will be working with the <\/span>Ministry of Justice<\/span><\/i> to ensure we attract candidates from a range of backgrounds, as a step towards a <\/span>Parole Board<\/span> membership that better reflects the community it serves.\u201c<\/span><\/p>\n

The board which decides when prisoners can leave prison has an \u201cunconscious bias\u201d in its recruitment process, according to its chair. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Caroline Corby has said that the <\/span>J<\/span>ohn Worboys<\/span> case<\/span> had caused a \u201closs of confidence\u201d amongst board members after Nick Hardwick, the previous chairman was forced to quit when the High Court overturned the board\u2019s decision to free the serial sex offender.<\/span><\/p>\n

Latest figures show that only 4% of members are from <\/span>BAME (Black, Asian, and minority ethnic) background. Currently, <\/span>13 members out of the 240 are from an ethnic background.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aslan also mentioned: \u201cWe are already undertaking outreach to encourage people from a diverse range of backgrounds, including BAME, to apply for these important roles when the recruitment opportunities become available.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
