It\u2019s clear we need to make some changes,\u201d apologised CEO Sundar Pichai, in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/inside-google\/company-announcements\/note-our-employees\/amp\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">an email to employees<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that was made public on the company\u2019s website Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Time is up <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GoogleWalkout?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@googlewalkout<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GoogleWalkout?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GoogleWalkout<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WHSj6U8NOr\">pic.twitter.com\/WHSj6U8NOr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Briana Wallace (@BrianaWallace) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrianaWallace\/status\/1058026781037547520?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 1, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Last week, more than 20,000 Google employees and contractors in 50 cities worldwide walked off the job to protest <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/10\/25\/technology\/google-sexual-harassment-andy-rubin.html?module=inline\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the large exit packages awarded to male executives accused of sexual misconduct and the company\u2019s silence over allegations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Walkout organisers demanded <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecut.com\/2018\/11\/google-walkout-organizers-explain-demands.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">five things<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: <\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">An end to forced arbitration in cases of harassment and discrimination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A commitment to end pay and opportunity equity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A publicly disclosed sexual harassment transparency report.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A clear, uniform, globally inclusive process for reporting sexual misconduct safely and anonymously.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Promote the Chief Diversity Officer to answer directly to the CEO, and appoint an Employee Representative to the board.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/documents\/26\/november_announcement_.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">action plan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> outlined in Pichai\u2019s email acknowledges the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. According to the plan, there will be no more forced private arbitration for sexual misconduct cases, details of sexual harassment allegations will be included in public investigative reports, and victims will receive extensive support during and after cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Voice of London<\/em> reached out to several technology and business experts for a quote, but unfortunately, did not receive comment.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While a step forward, many are still unhappy with the demands left unanswered. Nothing has been said on pay equity, whether racial and gender discrimination claims will still be dealt with by private arbitration, and if the company\u2019s diversity officer will get a direct link to the CEO. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Google has previously resisted changing forced arbitration policies, unlike <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/12\/19\/technology\/microsoft-sexual-harassment-arbitration.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Microsoft<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2018\/may\/15\/uber-sexual-assault-harassment-ride-hailing-arbitration\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Uber<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in the face of #MeToo pressure.
