{"id":27547,"date":"2018-12-01T09:00:24","date_gmt":"2018-12-01T09:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=27547"},"modified":"2018-12-01T09:00:24","modified_gmt":"2018-12-01T09:00:24","slug":"dystopian-futures-60s-music-legends-and-hunting-terrorists-the-triforce-film-festival-2018-opens-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/dystopian-futures-60s-music-legends-and-hunting-terrorists-the-triforce-film-festival-2018-opens-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Dystopian futures, 60s music legends and hunting terrorists: The TriForce Film Festival 2018 opens today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>TriForce Creative Network encourages diversity and inclusion in filmmaking and are running workshops helping filmmakers with funding, shooting and making connections within the industry. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The festival kicks off today at 11.00am and will last over 12 hours, with a <a href=\"http:\/\/tfsff.com\/schedule-2018\/\">range<\/a> of workshops and seminars led by industry <a href=\"http:\/\/tfsff.com\/#judges\">professionals<\/a> to help emerging filmmakers develop their skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout the day there will be screenings of the 16 shortlisted films, with an evening gala at the end of the event to announce the winners. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The festival celebrates films that have been created by a diverse group of people, with many of them starring people from minority groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Among the many topics being explored at the festival are the struggles LGBT people of colour face with their religious beliefs, such as in Cherish Oteka\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Religion<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Made in collaboration with Stonewall, the UK\u2019s leading LGBT charity, the film tackles a rarely discussed topic in little under five minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So proud to have Produced and Directed this project exploring the experiences of LGBTQ+ people of colour for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stonewalluk?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@stonewalluk<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/azbqihiZQi\">https:\/\/t.co\/azbqihiZQi<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Cherish Oteka (they\/them) (@CherishOteka) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CherishOteka\/status\/1012259377322086400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 28, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speaking with the Voice of London, Cherish said: \u201cI&#8217;m delighted to have Religion feature as part of this year&#8217;s TriForce short film festival. it&#8217;s so important that intersectional voices and experiences are given a platform.\u201d On TriForce, she said they are successful at \u201ccurating content that gives audiences a well-rounded insight into underrepresented perspectives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On creating <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Religion<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and ensuring the representation of these people was authentic, she said: \u201cwe worked collaboratively with contributors to make sure they felt heard\u201d and &#8220;ensured they felt they had this platform to share their stories.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another film, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Run<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, is set in a dystopian future where synthetic organs have become a necessity to survive after a drug-resistant disease takes over the UK. The story is centred around a father who will go to great lengths to take care of his sick son.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BizZrRknoxB\/<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other films include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oh, Geno!<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a story of a night in the life of 1960s soul legend Geno Washington, as told by himself. In <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Super Recogniser,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Jacob Anderson from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Game of Thrones <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">stars as Scott, a man with 90% facial recognition who is employed by the Government to track down terrorists. Charlotte Regan\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Little Monster<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a story of a man who gets his first phone call to his daughter after being sent to prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"His last phone call | Little Monster by Charlotte Regan feat Neil Maskell | Short Film | Random Acts\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tZUUFkFDH2w?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TriForce is taking big steps forward in ensuring diversity in filmmaking is fully embraced, but the larger entertainment industry still has a way to go.
