{"id":28462,"date":"2018-12-07T12:48:01","date_gmt":"2018-12-07T12:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=28462"},"modified":"2018-12-07T12:48:01","modified_gmt":"2018-12-07T12:48:01","slug":"assange-has-guarantees-from-ecuador-to-leave-embassy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/assange-has-guarantees-from-ecuador-to-leave-embassy\/","title":{"rendered":"Assange has &#8220;guarantees&#8221; from Ecuador to leave embassy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ecuadorian president, Lenin Moreno, has said he has received written assurances that the UK wouldn\u2019t extradite Assange to a country where he may face the death penalty.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Moreno told reporters during a radio interview yesterday \u201cThe road is clear for Mr. Assange to take the decision to leave\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He also told reporters that Assange would have to complete a short jail term for breaching bail conditions.<\/p>\n<p>See also: <a href=\"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/julian-assange-where-is-he-now\/\">Julian Assange: Where is he now?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Assange\u2019s lawyer, Barry Pollack, told <em>The Telegraph<\/em> that the deal was not acceptable and it will be rejected.<\/p>\n<p>He said \u201cNo one should have to face criminal charges for publishing truthful information\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>WikiLeaks tweeted saying \u201cthe only deal is between Ecuador and the United States\u2014to sell Assange for Loans\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe UK is repeating, as it always has, the standard EU policy of asking the US for life in prison instead of death. That\u2019s no deal.
