{"id":30950,"date":"2019-10-28T10:15:54","date_gmt":"2019-10-28T10:15:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=30950"},"modified":"2019-10-28T10:15:54","modified_gmt":"2019-10-28T10:15:54","slug":"eu-agrees-on-brexit-extension-until-31-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/eu-agrees-on-brexit-extension-until-31-january\/","title":{"rendered":"EU agrees on Brexit extension until 31 January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>EU leaders have come to terms to agree on delaying Brexit up until 31 January 2020, EU Council President, Donald Tusk, confirmed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Tusk referred to the Brexit extension as a \u2018flextension\u2019, meaning, UK is free to leave the EU before the set deadline if the deal passes through Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The EU27 has agreed that it will accept the UK&#8217;s request for a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Brexit?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Brexit<\/a> flextension until 31 January 2020. The decision is expected to be formalised through a written procedure.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Donald Tusk (@eucopresident) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/eucopresident\/status\/1188748108764721152?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 28, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MPs are expected to vote today after 17:00 on whether the UK should hold a general election on 12 December, as proposed earlier by Prime Minister.<\/p>\n<p>Jo Swinson and Ian Blackford, the leaders of the Liberal Democrats (Lib Dem) and the Scottish National Party (SNP), are trying to move up a general election on 9 December to stop Boris Johnson to push ahead with his Brexit deal.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister&#8217;s calls for a general election were failed to pass twice in Parliament.
