{"id":31048,"date":"2019-11-02T18:00:27","date_gmt":"2019-11-02T18:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=31048"},"modified":"2019-11-02T18:00:27","modified_gmt":"2019-11-02T18:00:27","slug":"clash-of-the-consoles-round-three","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/clash-of-the-consoles-round-three\/","title":{"rendered":"Clash of the consoles: round three"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sony and Microsoft are preparing to go head-to-head with the release of two new consoles in the holiday season of 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sony and Microsoft have announced their highly anticipated ninth-generation consoles &#8211; PlayStation 5 and XBOX\u2019s \u2018Project Scarlett\u2019 this year &#8211; with the clash of consoles is set to continue.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft\u2019s new console came this summer during the 2019 Electronic Entertainment Expo (also known as E3) in Los Angeles, with the codename \u2018Project Scarlett\u2019 having a release period of the holiday season next year.<\/p>\n<p>Sony then followed up in October with the announcement of the PlayStation 5 being in development and set to be released around the same time as Project Scarlett.<\/p>\n<p>Both consoles are due to be released within the same period and if they happen to come out in the same month, both companies will be doing their best to persuade gamers to purchase their next-generation console.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">PlayStation 5 vs Project Scarlett: Which console will be best?<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/H0RW2w8lgp\">https:\/\/t.co\/H0RW2w8lgp<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/PlayStation5?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#PlayStation5<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ProjectScarlett?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ProjectScarlett<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tgvjZHU4uE\">pic.twitter.com\/tgvjZHU4uE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Digital Spy (@digitalspy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/digitalspy\/status\/1182593664473862144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 11, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Esports marketer Hany Tahir told\u00a0<em>Voice of London<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Due to the fast improvements in technology, it&#8217;s essential that both companies create new consoles because of the high demand for gaming in Britain, with 38 million gamers in the UK.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So far, not much information has surfaced\u00a0about the\u00a0PS5\u00a0or Project Scarlett. What has been revealed\u00a0about the two consoles is that they&#8217;ll both contain a max frame rate of\u00a0120fps\u00a0with an 8K output resolution.<\/p>\n<p>These details alone are a huge selling point for the consoles, giving gamers amazing graphical visuals whilst enhancing the game&#8217;s performance, which will operate at a smoother pace playing online multiplayer.<\/p>\n<p>There has also been speculation about both platforms having backwards compatibility, allowing gamers to play previous-gen video games on the new consoles.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_31050\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31050\" class=\"wp-image-31050 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2019\/10\/IMG-5947-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-31050\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The PlayStation&#8217;s classic controller buttons on display at EGX 2019 (Image Credit: Dominic Magli)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With the prediction from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/706194\/virtual-reality-market-value-united-kingdom-uk\/\">statista.com<\/a> that the VR market in the UK will rise to an approximate value of \u00a3354million by 2020, Sony will likely be looking to upgrade their virtual reality experience for the PS5.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has yet to have their iteration of VR, meaning they could be planning to compete with Sony in that sector as well.<\/p>\n<p>With every new console comes bundles and video game exclusives that will draw fans towards a particular console.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has already stated\u00a0that one of their exclusives will be the sixth instalment of their popular first-person shooter franchise Halo.
