{"id":31606,"date":"2019-11-02T10:00:07","date_gmt":"2019-11-02T10:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=31606"},"modified":"2019-11-02T10:00:07","modified_gmt":"2019-11-02T10:00:07","slug":"international-day-to-end-impunity-for-crimes-against-journalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/international-day-to-end-impunity-for-crimes-against-journalists\/","title":{"rendered":"International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Journalists around the world unite on November 2<sup>nd<\/sup> to fight for justice against the criminals who silence journalists by killing them.<\/p>\n<p>By removing the person who has gained access to any type of evidence before it is distributed to the media, it lets criminal organisations to keep on pursuing their illicit activities and allows corrupt governments to carry on manipulating their citizens.<\/p>\n<p>These murders have a huge impact on the world since it keeps society blindfolded to the true dangers we live in. With the loss of the journalist, the gatekeeper of information, media outlets are then unable to inform, causing the public to remain ignorant from the truth and forming biased conclusions.<\/p>\n<p>The UNESCO in collaboration with the Mexican authorities have organised an international seminar in Mexico City to discuss identifying the steps to follow as well as concrete measures to strengthen the battle against impunity in the face of crimes and attacks against journalists.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More information available in the video.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"International Day To End Impunity For Crimes Against Journalists\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OJ5tCbGB25k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Also, the UNESCO website has a section called\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unesco.exposure.co\/truth-never-dies\">#TruthNeverDies<\/a>\u00a0dedicated to all the lost journalists, showing the information they were investigating that caused their death.<\/p>\n<p>To carry on the fallen journalist\u2019s legacy, the website encourages people to share their findings on every social media platform.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the faces that died finding out the truth. Fausto Valdiviezo is one of those cases that still has not been solved after 6 years.
