{"id":32069,"date":"2019-11-08T12:53:51","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T12:53:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=32069"},"modified":"2019-11-08T12:53:51","modified_gmt":"2019-11-08T12:53:51","slug":"crossrail-delayed-another-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/crossrail-delayed-another-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Crossrail delayed until 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crossrail, expected to be called the Elizabeth line, won\u2019t operate until 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Wild, chief executive of Crossrail Ltd, released a statement on Friday the line will run once \u201cpractically possible in 2021\u201d and additional funding of up to \u00a3650m, taking the total of the project over \u00a318bn.<\/p>\n<p>The highly anticipated service was scheduled to open in December 2018 but has faced perpetual setbacks.<\/p>\n<p>Crossrail is to stretch over 60 miles \u2013 running east-west of London, as far as Reading to Shenfield \u2013 and designed to ease traffic on the Jubilee line at Canada Water and Canary Wharf.<\/p>\n<p>The statement, that was released Friday, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our detailed cost forecasts continue to show that the project\u2019s costs will increase due to programme risks and uncertainties. The latest projections indicate a range of between \u00a3400 million to \u00a3650 million more than the revised funding&#8221;, agreed by the Mayor, Government and Transport for London in December 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are doing everything we can to complete the Elizabeth line as quickly as we can but there are no short-cuts to delivering this hugely complex railway.
