{"id":32283,"date":"2019-11-09T23:14:21","date_gmt":"2019-11-09T23:14:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=32283"},"modified":"2019-11-09T23:14:21","modified_gmt":"2019-11-09T23:14:21","slug":"500000-people-turn-out-for-lord-mayors-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/500000-people-turn-out-for-lord-mayors-show\/","title":{"rendered":"500,000 people attend Lord Mayor\u2019s Show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Half a million people turned out in the City of London on Saturday to celebrate\u00a0<\/strong><strong>the appointment of the 692nd Lord Mayor of London William Russell, according to the statistics from Daily Mail.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>William Russell, waving with a wide smile, raised his feather hat from the Golden Grand State Coach to the crowd attending the 804<sup>th<\/sup> Lord Mayor\u2019s Show.<\/p>\n<p>His carriage was drawn by six shire horses that took him down the three-mile long procession, beginning at Mansion House at 11 a.m. via St Paul\u2019s and finishing at the Royal Courts of Justice.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The full map of the parade could be found here:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[googlemaps https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/embed?mid=1K5SW3YHzVfTf16LPbXvi3Z2zxxjiF-8v&amp;w=640&amp;h=480]<\/p>\n<p>Although it was a cold and bone-chilling morning, most roads in the city were completely closed, admitting no traffic whatsoever. It did not stop the enthusiasm of the citizens to participate.<\/p>\n<p>Around half a million people stood on both sides of the road and waved at Mr Russell to show respect while also paying tribute to British culture.<\/p>\n<p>Over 7,000 people, 200 horses, 150 decorated floats with dozens of military bands and carriages participated in the joyful civic parade. Dancers-who were dressed in vibrant oriental dress-put on a spectacular display during the show.
