{"id":33136,"date":"2019-11-15T17:10:47","date_gmt":"2019-11-15T17:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=33136"},"modified":"2019-11-15T17:10:47","modified_gmt":"2019-11-15T17:10:47","slug":"instagram-likes-removed-love-it-or-hate-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/instagram-likes-removed-love-it-or-hate-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Instagram likes removed: Love it or Hate it?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The popular social media platform has dropped a bombshell on UK users by removing likes, but what\u2019s the reason?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Instagram is running a trial in the UK making likes private for some users in a hope to \u2018relieve pressure\u2019 &#8211; and there\u2019s nothing we can do about it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The trial initially started in seven countries: Australia, Canada, Brazil, Italy, New Zealand and Japan, but it seems to be popular as it has been extended to the US and now the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why are likes being hidden?<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s been brought to public attention that users are placing a heavy amount of attention on numbers, and seeking validation in the content they create.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Instagram says. \u00a0&#8220;The idea is to try to &#8216;depressurize&#8217; Instagram, make it less of a competition and give people more space to focus on connecting with people that they love, things that inspire them.&#8221; Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri says.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The social media platform has come under fire in the past for its link to poor mental health.
