{"id":33833,"date":"2019-11-23T12:17:48","date_gmt":"2019-11-23T12:17:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=33833"},"modified":"2019-11-23T12:17:48","modified_gmt":"2019-11-23T12:17:48","slug":"anti-semitic-harassment-towards-a-family-on-the-london-underground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/anti-semitic-harassment-towards-a-family-on-the-london-underground\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Semitic harassment towards a family on the London Underground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nThe British Transport Police are appealing to the public in identifying a man who was recorded\u00a0reading anti-Jewish Bible scriptures to a young Jewish boy on the tube.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It is alleged that the man was of the belief that \u201cthese people\u201d, meaning Jews, \u201cwere trying to claim our [his] heritage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Neither the boy nor his father retaliated, but the father is seen\u00a0whispering to his son on the video \u201cjust ignore him\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Chris Atkins, who recorded the video, described the man to be \u201ca very committed Christian [who] believed this was the word of God.\u201d Mr Atkins was disturbed at how he was yelling at the boy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The man was also in an argument with another passenger, not seen on camera, who tried to intervene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Another Muslim passenger has been praised for\u00a0confronting the man and trying to prevent him from further yelling at the boy, even after he turned his anger on her asking her \u201cwhy are you wearing trousers?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Police are asking for witnesses and anyone who knows this man for help in identifying him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Words: Kenya Best<\/p>\n<p>Image: Chris Atkins<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The British Transport Police are appealing to the public in identifying a man who was recorded\u00a0reading anti-Jewish Bible scriptures to a young Jewish boy on the tube.
