taking a photograph of them, and being able to share it with the whole world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Vihren Georgiev is a photographer based in Sofia, Bulgaria. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Motivated by a love of Sofia and its\u2019 people, he started the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PeopleOfSofiq\/\"><span class=\"s2\">\u2018People Of Sofia\u2019<\/span><\/a> Facebook page in May 2013, and since then it has become one of the most popular pages on the internet, where you can see thousands of the capital\u2019s citizens doing their daily tasks, completely unaware they\u2019re being photographed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Neither the Facebook page or website has any sort of introduction or \u2018About\u2019 page to describe what the page is about, but when you look at the photography and the \u2018stories\u2019 of the people that have been photographed, they speak for themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Much of the photography on both the website and Facebook page shows evidence of the contrast between the well-off and the poor, and the vast diversity of people living in Bulgaria\u2019s capital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-36623\" Other photographs are uploaded with a transcript of the dialogue between the photographer and the model.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> There are a variety of photographs showing especially Bulgarian traditions on national holidays such as St George\u2019s Day, St Cyril and Methodius Day &#8211; the Day of Culture and Literacy, and Bulgarian Independance Day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Some of the photographs that get the most attention are those of non-ethnic Bulgarians who show support for the country by carrying flags and even dressing up with Bulgarian merchandise, such as the couple photographed below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-36619\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2019\/12\/Screenshot-2019-12-14-at-00.37.18-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"687\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2019\/12\/Screenshot-2019-12-14-at-00.37.18-1.png 720w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2019\/12\/Screenshot-2019-12-14-at-00.37.18-1-214x300.png 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> Some other photos which have been taken and featured on the \u2018People of Sofia\u2019 page and website include singer Galena waving the Pride flag during Sofia Pride, which happens every year usually on May 1st.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The photos posted from Sofia Pride attracted a lot of both positive and negative attention from people on Facebook, but there were a surprising amount of positive comments, given that even today homosexuality is widely frowned upon by particularly the older generation in Bulgaria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One woman commented saying \u201cWell done, People of Sofia, for boldly defending these people against the haters and trolls! You\u2019re great! For everyone who threatened to unfollow your page because of these photos, you won a big fan &#8211; me!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One photo which caused a lot of controversy in the comments was this photo featuring a young boy between the age of 10-12, wearing a flower headband and happily posing.
