{"id":38631,"date":"2020-11-06T12:42:20","date_gmt":"2020-11-06T12:42:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=38631"},"modified":"2020-11-06T12:42:20","modified_gmt":"2020-11-06T12:42:20","slug":"afghans-protest-in-trafalgar-square-after-recent-attack-on-kabul-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/afghans-protest-in-trafalgar-square-after-recent-attack-on-kabul-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Afghans protest in Trafalgar Square after recent attack on Kabul University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Afghans gathered in Trafalgar Square on Wednesday to protest and mourn the victims of the Kabul University attack, which left 35 students dead and 22 wounded.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The attack in the Afghan capital happened on the 2nd of November, shortly before the arrival of government officials for an Iranian book fair hosted by the University.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Afghans protest in Trafalgar Square after recent attack on Kabul University\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x2HxPwP0AKg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The gunmen stormed Kabul University before engaging in a six hour long battle with security forces.<\/p>\n<p>Tariq Arian, a spokesman for the Afghan Interior ministry, said the attack finally came to an end when the three gunmen were killed.<\/p>\n<p>The Taliban denied involvement and condemned the attack shortly after it began. Last month, IS attacked a tuition centre in Kabul that left 24 people dead.\u00a0The group also claimed responsibility for an attack in 2018 at the front of Kabul University in which dozens were killed.<\/p>\n<p>President Ashraf Ghani issued a statement at the presidential palace where he said authorities would &#8220;take revenge for this senseless attack.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Afghans united and stood in solidarity with the students who lost their lives in the horrific act. People also raised their voices and described the anger and pain they were feeling, not only from this attack but for all the conflict that has occurred in Afghanistan over the past four decades.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38671\" style=\"width: 628px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38671\" class=\"wp-image-38671\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2020\/11\/flag-pic-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"618\" height=\"328\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-38671\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Protestors holding placards and the Afghan flag | Photo: Marwa Ahmadi<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The vigil and protest was organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/acaa.org.uk\/sample-page\/who-we-are\/\">ACAA<\/a> (Afghanistan and Central Asia Association), an organisation dedicated to helping refugees.
