At a time like this, it becomes even more important to have a distraction. Even with 2020 being \u2018cancelled\u2019 people are looking for \u2018love in hopeless places.\u2019 There has been a surge in dating app users during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>There are apps and helplines to support people who are dealing with the anxiety of being alone or facing difficulties while isolating, however, people would rather choose dating apps than getting help from a professional.<\/p>\n<p>A Bumble app user, Zainab Rizvi, 21, said: \u201cI would rather use dating apps to talk to people than calling the helpline. That seems more normal to me. Some of the dating apps have built-in games or ice-breakers to make it more interesting for the users.<\/p>\n<p><em>Match<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/ir.mtch.com\/news-and-events\/press-releases\/press-release-details\/2020\/Match-Group-Reports-Third-Quarter-2020-Results\/default.aspx\">reported<\/a> in its third-quarter earnings that <em>Hinge<\/em> subscriptions are up 82% this year and revenue has grown more than 200% year-over-year.<\/p>\n<p>Wolfe Herd, the Founder and CEO of <em>Bumble<\/em>, told Poppy Harlow on <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/bumble-ceo-dating-in-the-age-of-covid\/id1201282406?i=1000474573928\">an episode<\/a> of <em>CNN\u2019s Boss Files<\/em> podcast: \u201cMore genuine connections are forming out of this, and people are really, you know, being secure in who they\u2019re meeting before that eventual physical meet-up ever begins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking to seize the opportunity, media giant, <em>Facebook<\/em> has launched its own dating app during the pandemic, \u2018Facebook Dating.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>People who wouldn\u2019t use the apps before have also stumbled upon them, due to the situation. Smith said: \u201cI didn\u2019t feel the need to download it before as I was able to talk to my school friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Voice of London<\/em> conducted a poll on Instagram to ask the public if they have used dating apps during the pandemic. The result showed that 64% had used the apps, while 34% of the voters declined.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/locking-down-the-world-but-not-hearts-dating-apps-still-a-hit\/poll-conducted-on-instagram\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-41852\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41852\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2020\/11\/Poll-conducted-on-Instagram-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"887\" height=\"499\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not everyone is looking for a romantic experience.
