{"id":39387,"date":"2020-11-13T16:41:46","date_gmt":"2020-11-13T16:41:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=39387"},"modified":"2020-11-13T16:41:46","modified_gmt":"2020-11-13T16:41:46","slug":"2020-nitto-atp-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/2020-nitto-atp-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Nitto ATP Finals: two days to go"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Preparations for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/news\/nitto-atp-finals-2020-draw-groups-announced\">Nitto ATP 2020<\/a> tour season finals have begun.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The event which will take place in London, at the O2 Arena starting from the 15th of November, will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the tournament. It will mark the final edition being held in the British capital due to its relocation in Turin for the upcoming year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic and consequent safety measures, the tournament will be held behind closed doors, which forces a virtual goodbye from the millions of fans. Fans who in the past 12 years, have travelled to Greenwich to attend the event.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">ATP statement on the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NittoATPFinals?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NittoATPFinals<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DgONwl5CQM\">pic.twitter.com\/DgONwl5CQM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; ATP Tour (@atptour) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/atptour\/status\/1322667551638220800?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 31, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, that shouldn\u2019t stop us from enjoying the event and celebrating the success of its legacy in London.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As expressed by Rafael Nadal: \u201cOf course in an event like this one, I think tennis needs to keep moving, but at the same time it\u2019s not fair to finish here in London without crowds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBut that\u2019s the thing that is happening today in this world. Just congratulate London for this amazing 11\/12 years that we have been playing here and I expect to have another great event in Turin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Spanish champion will continue the race for his first ATP finals title along side the World No.1 Novak Djokovic, debutants Andrey Rublev and Diego Scharmant, as well as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev. But Greg Rusedski, the former number one, believes that his motivation will provide a good comeback, following his absence at the Paris Masters. As he recently told the PA News agency:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI think he is going to be motivated because he hasn\u2019t won it in a long time and whether you like it or not these guys want records. Federer, Djokovic and (Rafael) Nadal want to go down with the most slams, the most ATP Finals wins, the most Masters wins, that is what drives these three incredible legends of the game.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On the other hand, he\u2019s not as positive when it comes to Nadal\u2019s success in winning the one title that\u2019s been missing on his \u2018CV\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI think the court speed and the balls are just a little bit too quick and the other guys are playing better than him indoors.
