{"id":40834,"date":"2020-11-26T19:23:15","date_gmt":"2020-11-26T19:23:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=40834"},"modified":"2020-11-26T19:23:15","modified_gmt":"2020-11-26T19:23:15","slug":"university-of-manchester-agrees-on-30-rent-reduction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/university-of-manchester-agrees-on-30-rent-reduction\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Manchester agrees on 30 percent rent reduction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The University of Manchester rent strike group announced yesterday that students would be offered a 30 percent rent reduction, following increased media attention on protests against the University&#8217;s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the fact the group was originally campaigning for a rent reduction of 40 per cent, <a href=\"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/university-of-manchester\/\">along with other terms<\/a>,\u00a0the final 30 percent reduction amounts to a total of \u00a312 million, making it the largest university pay-out to students in rent strike history. Lewis Goodall, a BBC reporter who interviewed the students while in the tower, questioned on Twitter if this might lead other Vice Chancellors to follow the same direction as the University of Manchester.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The VC said that it was \u201ca difficult interview\u201d but the wider questions about what\u2019s been happening to students and the service they\u2019re paying for apply to universities across the country.
