{"id":41081,"date":"2020-12-01T15:00:58","date_gmt":"2020-12-01T15:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=41081"},"modified":"2020-12-01T15:00:58","modified_gmt":"2020-12-01T15:00:58","slug":"chinara-rapid-testing-launched-for-students-travelling-home-this-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/chinara-rapid-testing-launched-for-students-travelling-home-this-christmas\/","title":{"rendered":"Rapid testing launched for students travelling home this Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>University of Westminster has introduced rapid tests for UK students travelling within the country from their term-time address while Tier 2 restrictions are imposed.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/higher-education-reopening-buildings-and-campuses\/student-movement-and-plans-for-the-end-of-autumn-2020-term\">The government has instructed universities and other educational providers<\/a> to cease face to face learning for the winter term by 9 December at the latest. After this date, lessons, if continued, can be online only.<\/p>\n<p>Students who will undertake journeys within the UK are advised to travel during the &#8220;travel window&#8221; between 3 to 9 December.<\/p>\n<p>Those who do not return home by 9 December will need to undertake a further period of restricted contact either before or after returning home to minimise the risk of transmission.<\/p>\n<p>These measures are taken to ensure that students have gone through the full self-isolation period so that they can return back safely.<\/p>\n<p>University of Westminster have joined the Government scheme and \u00a0is now offering\u00a0Later Flow Tests( LFT) to test asymptomatic individuals.<\/p>\n<p>A student is eligible for test if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>they have no COVID-19 symptoms<\/li>\n<li>has not been tested positive for the last 10 days<\/li>\n<li>plan to visit another household<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Planning to travel away from your term-time address in December?<\/p>\n<p>You may be eligible for free COVID-19 testing, available 30 November \u2013 7 December (including the weekend).<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; University of Westminster (@UniWestminster) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UniWestminster\/status\/1332345939273670664?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 27, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/students-now-allowed-home-for-christmas-but-are-they-happy-with-the-advice\/\">Rapid Testing<\/a>\u00a0involves taking a swab from nose or throat to in extraction solution and provide results within hours from the NHS Test and Trace service. Once I arrived the test was done in a matter of minutes. I didn&#8217;t receive my test results the same day as it had been muddled up, however the university were very helpful and solved the issue immediately. I have now tested negative and will be going back on Wednesday to be tested for the second time&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>For full reassurance, students are advised to take two tests three days apart.<\/p>\n<p>If you a student who is planning to travel abroad, LFT tests are usually not suitable for that purpose.
