{"id":42209,"date":"2020-12-04T13:10:20","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T13:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=42209"},"modified":"2020-12-04T13:10:20","modified_gmt":"2020-12-04T13:10:20","slug":"early-uk-undergraduate-applications-see-sharp-increase-for-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/early-uk-undergraduate-applications-see-sharp-increase-for-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Early UK undergrad applications see sharp rise for 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>The number of entries for early admission to undergraduate courses in the UK for 2021 has been the highest in at least eight years, according to <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucas.com\/data-and-analysis\/undergraduate-statistics-and-reports\/ucas-undergraduate-releases\/applicant-releases-2021\/2021-cycle-applicant-figures-15-october-deadline\"><b>UCAS statistics.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The pandemic has left worldwide education in a state of unpredictability, with many opting to completely drop a year. However, the number of applicants who applied for 2020 had seen a lesser difference, with almost 3000 more people applying compared to the previous year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ahmed Imran, 23, Pakistan, said: \u201cI couldn\u2019t apply for the September 2020 term because the Covid-19 situation wasn\u2019t clear back then. Now, with the vaccine coming in, there\u2019s no doubt in my mind that I took the right decision by applying for 2021.&#8221;<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/early-uk-undergraduate-applications-see-sharp-increase-for-2021\/screen-shot-2020-12-04-at-00-08-16\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42220\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-42220\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2020\/12\/Screen-Shot-2020-12-04-at-00.08.16-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"312\" height=\"421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2020\/12\/Screen-Shot-2020-12-04-at-00.08.16-1.png 312w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2020\/12\/Screen-Shot-2020-12-04-at-00.08.16-1-222x300.png 222w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 312px) 100vw, 312px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clare Marchant, UCAS Chief Executive, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucas.com\/corporate\/news-and-key-documents\/news\/students-aim-high-university-applications-next-year\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: \u201cIt\u2019s great news to see students aim high and aspire to a future beyond the current limits of COVID with their choices for next year. The advice and guidance that teachers, universities, and colleges have provided in these challenging times has been outstanding and is reflected in today\u2019s numbers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lecturers are hopeful about the student turnout based on early insights. Anastasia Denisova, Course Leader of BA (Hons) Journalism at the University of Westminster said: \u201cThe fact that we have a vaccine (or three) coming to public use soon, makes people optimistic &#8211; I assume this may be the reason applicants are eager to enjoy learning and student life.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The country saw a similar state in 2008 when there was a major recision.
