{"id":43723,"date":"2021-10-28T09:32:58","date_gmt":"2021-10-28T08:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=43723"},"modified":"2021-12-18T13:46:30","modified_gmt":"2021-12-18T13:46:30","slug":"how-londoners-are-taking-part-in-cop26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/how-londoners-are-taking-part-in-cop26\/","title":{"rendered":"How Londoners are taking part in COP26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>With COP26 just a few days away, lots of Londoners are thinking of ways to get involved with the climate conference from here in the capital.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/what-actually-is-cop26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What is COP26?<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Check out the ways Londoners are taking part&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>London COP26 protests<\/h2>\n<p>There are lots of mass gatherings planned in and around the capital in the run up to, and during, the climate conference.<\/p>\n<p>Organised by local groups such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/XRLondon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Extinction Rebellion London<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/friendsoftheearth.uk\/near-me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Friends of the Earth<\/a>, they aim to bring attention to COP26 here in London.<\/p>\n<p>From fun bike rides to \u2018die-ins\u2019 where protesters lie on the ground to make a statement, there are lots of ways to participate.<\/p>\n<p>The main planned event is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1321222944961890\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Day of Action<\/a> on 6th November, where people will gather all over the world to remind governments that the world is watching them. Rose, who is riding with the organisation <a href=\"https:\/\/not1more.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Not One More<\/a>, told Voice of London about her journey so far: \u201cIt\u2019s been amazing, such a lovely group of cyclists and support crew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When we spoke to Rose, she had just arrived in Birmingham, after staying at different environmental camps in the south of England:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We\u2019ve had some really interesting visits to people living in treehouses to protect the woodland that is being cut down for HS2.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Not One More supports activists on the frontline of climate campaigning in the Global South, such as Cambodia and Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>After arriving in Glasgow, Not One More will join with other grassroots groups to demand action from world leaders at the conference.<\/p>\n<p>Rose is also a musician who writes songs about <a href=\"http:\/\/littletrumpet.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fighting environmental issues<\/a>.
