{"id":45198,"date":"2021-12-01T11:23:25","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T11:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/?p=45198"},"modified":"2021-12-03T14:29:53","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T14:29:53","slug":"pandemic-hits-young-adults-mental-health-the-hardest-heres-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/pandemic-hits-young-adults-mental-health-the-hardest-heres-why\/","title":{"rendered":"Pandemic hits young adults\u2019 mental health the hardest-here\u2019s why"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Mental health issues in young people have been on the rise over the last decade, a recent global survey has found that the pandemic has made them even worse.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">YouGov-Cambridge partnered with The Guardian and Cambridge University to produce the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/topics\/international\/articles-reports\/2019\/05\/01\/about-yougov-cambridge-globalism-project\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">YouGov-Cambridge Globalism Project<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which seeks to put out an annual study of the public state of globalisation, including samples from 23 countries around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Guardian recently published <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2021\/nov\/23\/pandemic-hits-mental-health-of-women-and-young-people-hardest-survey-finds\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">results<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from the latest You-Gov Cambridge Globalism Project survey that asked people around the world how the pandemic has impacted their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best of Voice of London&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/what-is-omicron-and-will-it-affect-christmas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>What is Omicron and how will it affect Christmas?\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/fly-over-the-river-thames-this-christmas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>&#8216;Fly&#8217; over the River Thames this Christmas?<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/e-scooter-experiment-soon-to-be-legalised-in-britain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">E scooter experiment: soon to be legalised in Britain?<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> It discovered that young people disproportionately reported feeling unhappy and that they \u201cwere consistently more likely than their elders to feel the Covid crisis had made their financial and mental health concerns worse.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/young-adults-mental-health-in-UK-final-pic-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/young-adults-mental-health-in-UK-final-pic-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/young-adults-mental-health-in-UK-final-pic-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/young-adults-mental-health-in-UK-final-pic-1-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, many other countries in Europe and around the world are showing an astonishingly similar picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To understand how the pandemic is having a negative mental toll on young adults, we spoke to a 20 year old university student (who wishes to not be named) and has been struggling &#8220;with anxiety since the start of Covid\u201d when it became something she &#8220;could no longer ignore or play down anymore.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with Dr. Vlad Glaveanu, Head of the Department of Psychology and Counselling at Webster University in Geneva about why younger adults are struggling more than older ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listen to the full audio interview below to find out why the pandemic is negatively impacting young people\u2019s mental health and what can be done about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-soundcloud wp-block-embed-soundcloud wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Why is the pandemic impacting young people\u2019s mental health the most?
