{"id":45497,"date":"2021-12-03T11:17:32","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T11:17:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/?p=45497"},"modified":"2021-12-03T13:00:45","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T13:00:45","slug":"e-scooter-experiment-soon-to-be-legalised-in-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/e-scooter-experiment-soon-to-be-legalised-in-britain\/","title":{"rendered":"E-scooter experiment: soon to be legalised in Britain?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>E-scooters may replace fuel-consuming vehicles to improve urban air quality. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the scooters are still in an experimental phase, it will take some time to determine the environmental and safety impacts of the switch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several injuries have been reported as a result of increasing e-scooter use, and inappropriate use of the vehicles has led to more road accidents across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the lead up to Christmas, retailers are trying to persuade people to buy e-scooters as gifts to increase sales performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the London government has stated that that riding e-scooters on roads is illegal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Met has warned retailers about the federal ban on e-scooters, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/powered-transporters\/information-sheet-guidance-on-powered-transporters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transport for London<\/a> continues to remind them about issued legislation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Warnings from The Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) have announced that anyone riding an e-scooter without insurance and registration will be breaking the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">E-Scooter near miss last night, New Bridge Street. As a result, accidents occur frequently and riders, or passers-by, may be injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On average, the e-scooters injuries cost NHS \u00a31,000 for each patient.
