The woman was studying while working two full time jobs: one during the day and one at night in a nursing home.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A small mention of the driver at the end of the article: &#39;Gardene De Carvalho, 41, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.&#39; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AbsentDriver?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AbsentDriver<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IoLgbdcqPg\">https:\/\/t.co\/IoLgbdcqPg<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Cycleway, my arse! @issaddlethereis.bsky.social (@IsSaddleThereIs) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IsSaddleThereIs\/status\/1280788216455606272?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 8, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The prosecution argued that the cause of Gardene De Carval\u2019s \u2018passing out\u2019 while driving was her excessive working \u2013 around 110 hours per week.<br>Moreover, the woman was driving without an insurance cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She got sentenced for three years and a half of jail time and her driving license got suspended for four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matt Smith, Detective Sergeant that followed the investigation said:&nbsp;\u201cHer refusal to take responsibility for using the roads safely led to the death of a young girl, and my thoughts and deepest sympathies remain with Victoria&#8217;s family.&#8221;<br>And also told drivers from all around the UK how this case in particular has to serve as a reminder to everybody that safety behind the wheel is a must.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to statistics from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), driving in a drowsy condition is one of the main causes of fatal car accidents.&nbsp;<br>In fact, in 2020 one out of five road tragedies have been caused by a fatigued driver with 50% of them resulting in serious injuries or death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there is no accurate nor legal way to put the tiredness of a driver to test, it is strictly forbidden by the government not to get behind a wheel while experiencing excessive sleepiness.
