They took Amini in for \u201cre-education\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eyewitnesses said Amini was beaten in a transport van before being taken to emergency care. Three days later, the young woman died in hospital after falling into a coma hours after her arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Photographs of Amini appear to show that she was brutally beaten. Reportedly, she was bruised and unconscious before receiving treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Iranian officials, the woman had lost conciousness at the police station and later passed away due to a heart attack. Time of death also varies from source to source, with some stating she died after three days, and others as soon as one hour later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iranian media has widely varying accounts of Amini&#8217;s death, with <a href=\"https:\/\/iranwire.com\/en\/politics\/108955-mahsa-aminis-family-under-pressure-to-cancel-ceremony\/\">many understanding<\/a> that Amini&#8217;s family have been forced into following a &#8220;state-friendly&#8221; narrative. Not wearing an appropriate headscarf (hijab). While her family was traveling from Kurdistan to Tehran, she was stopped by the police. Her brother witnessed the assault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hijab has been obligatory for women in Iran <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/hijab-law-in-iran-over-the-decades-the-continuing-battle-for-reform-192037#:~:text=Wearing%20hijab%20became%20obligatory%20for,Muslims%20and%20foreigners%20visiting%20Iran.\">since 1983<\/a>, after the 1979 Islamic revolution introduced the idea of hijab law. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Amini&#8217;s murder has sparked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/10\/03\/1126603977\/iran-mahsa-amini-solidarity-protests\">worldwide protests<\/a>, all advocating for women&#8217;s rights in Iran. Globally, many celebrities and public figures have publicly declared support for the protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Protests in London<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The Iranian Embassy, at Princes Gate Kensington, has been the scene of protests to shut down the embassy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Activists have called for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/politics\/iranian-embassy-road-london-mahsa-amini-street-layla-moran-b1033687.html\" title=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/politics\/iranian-embassy-road-london-mahsa-amini-street-layla-moran-b1033687.html\">rename of Princes Gate<\/a> (the road that the Iranian embassy is on) to &#8216;Mahsa Amini Street&#8217; as a tribute to the 22-year-old.
