{"id":52122,"date":"2022-12-17T18:53:49","date_gmt":"2022-12-17T18:53:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/?p=52122"},"modified":"2022-12-17T19:41:19","modified_gmt":"2022-12-17T19:41:19","slug":"update-woman-dies-of-her-injuries-after-concert-crushing-at-asake-concert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/thevoiceoflondon\/update-woman-dies-of-her-injuries-after-concert-crushing-at-asake-concert\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: Woman dies of her injuries after concert crushing at Asake concert"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GrixMagazine\/status\/1604154247012306951\">@grixmagazine<\/a> via twitter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> It has been sadly reported that a woman has died of her injuries after a crushing left several others injured and three others in critical condition after a crushing at a concert <a href=\"https:\/\/thevoiceoflondon.co.uk\/brixton-o2-academy-four-people-are-in-critical-condition-after-fans-break-into-asakes-concert\/\">Thursday night<\/a> at London&#8217;s <em>Brixton O2 Academy.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The concert, held by afrobeat artist <em>Asake<\/em>, was stopped halfway through after a large number of people forced their way inside, despite previous warnings to not attend if people did not have tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Rebecca Ikumelo<\/em>, 33, from<em> Newham, East London<\/em>, passed away in hospital on Saturday morning, the <em>Met <\/em>has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two other women, aged 21 and 23, are said to still remain in critical condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asake said he was &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CmRbwaysMfh\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\">overwhelmed with grief&#8221; and &#8220;devastated&#8221; by her passing.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He wrote: &#8220;My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time. Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them and will continue to do so.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>London Mayor, <em>Sadiq Khan<\/em> also &#8220;extended [his] condolecences to her family and loved ones via a tweet on twitter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My thoughts remain with everyone affected by this dreadful incident.
