{"id":52,"date":"2025-10-03T12:58:31","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T11:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/trl\/?page_id=52"},"modified":"2025-11-24T12:35:55","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T12:35:55","slug":"2025-trl-autumn-school","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/trl\/2025-trl-autumn-school\/","title":{"rendered":"2025 TRL Autumn School"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Autumn School on Data Science, AI and Modelling for Air Transport<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between the 27 and the 31 October 2025, the Transport Research Lab run its Autumn School and Hackathon on data science, AI and modelling for Air Transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The School was aimed at students\u2014mainly from the School of Computer Science\u2014interested in transportation (with a focus on aviation) and how data and modelling approaches can be applied in this field.<br><br>We welcomed 19 participants, with lectures on Monday from university staff and guest speakers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Introduction to air traffic management and mobility modelling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use of anonymised Mobile Network Data for transport modelling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modelling and simulating the system (Mercury &#8211; Agent-Based Model)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Techniques for data analysis and modelling\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Process mining for air transport and simulation analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regression models for flight operations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clustering and trajectory analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday, students participated in a hands-on session with open datasets, including EUROCONTROL\u2019s R&amp;D Archive, OpenSky ADS-B, and ERA5. The week concluded with a hackathon, where students developed and presented their own projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations to all participants \u2014 and especially to the hackathon participants and winners:<br>1. \ud83e\udd47 Deeptangshu Mazumder, for developing from scratch a dashboard to visualise airline and airport operations using EUROCONTROL R&amp;D data.<br>2. \ud83e\udd48Milena Musiienko, Oscar Denche, Matthew Lester and Daniel Hernandez, for their full pipeline predicting flight demand to the UK \u2014 impressive work in just two days.<br>3. \ud83e\udd49Oluwatobi Fadeyi, for applying unsupervised clustering to analyse airport flight operations.<br>4.
