Internal 2025-2026 AI project proposals competition

We are delighted to announce the winners of our internal 2025-2026 AI project proposals competition, which launched during our Network event on the 22nd of October.<\/span><\/p>

Given the high calibre of all entries, the competition was incredibly close. The selection process was highly rigorous, with each submission evaluated by three independent reviewers. We are very pleased to share the three projects with the highest scores:<\/span><\/p>

  1. LearnSLXR: A Deaf-Led AI+XR Platform for Scalable Sign-Language Learning. Lead Investigator: Daphne Economou (Computer Science and Engineering)<\/span><\/li>
  2. Prediction of Material\u2013Biology Interactions in Bone\u2013Implant Systems using Digital Twin Technology. Lead Investigator: Jiin Woei Lee (Life Sciences)<\/span><\/li>
  3. Mind, Machine and Academic Writing: Leveraging AI to Cultivate Academic Voice, Lead Investigator: Venetia Tzanni (CETI)<\/span><\/li><\/ol>

    As outlined in the original scheme, the RKEO and the AI Network will now collaborate closely with the winning teams prioritising your proposals. Our goal is to identify appropriate funding bodies and work with you to adjust, upgrade and polish your proposals to ensure they are fully prepared for successful external funding bids<\/span><\/p>

    15:00\u201316:00<\/b> \u2014 Expanding the AI Network:\u00a0 Short presentations from invited industry and policy speakers, followed by discussion on positioning the network within the current UK AI landscape.<\/span><\/p>

    16:00 onwards<\/b> \u2014 Informal networking:\u00a0 Optional post\u2011assembly gathering at a nearby pub.<\/span><\/p>

    Your participation will help shape the future priorities of the Westminster AI Network and foster collaborations for impactful research.
