My name is Giulia and I’m a Marketing Communications BA student, currently working as a Marketing Intern at Westminster Business School. These are my 5 top reasons why I love studying in London!
1. It’s the London vibe
London… It’s the city everyone wants to visit at least once in their life, the same city that you have always seen in books. Since the first time I came here on holiday I knew I wanted to live here, I could feel it in the air that this was the right place for me! This city offers everything you might need, whether you are looking for the dream job in the industry you love, or just looking for new friends, new inspirations, or even cultivate your passions, here you can find anything you are looking for, London will help you in your mission. This city is for all because London has a space for everyone!
2. So many (free) things to do
You would be surprised to know that this city has the advantage of having a lot of things to do and that most of them are for free! London has some of the most beautiful parks and green areas I have ever seen, where you as a Londoner will spend your days off having some drinks and food with your new friends. Hyde Park and St. James Park are wonderful for a coffee during winter, and they are full of squirrels to play with, but Greenwich Park and Primrose Hills are my favourites for the amazing views and colors at sunset. If, like me, you love city life and amazing views, you will love the Sky Garden. It’s one of the tallest buildings in the city where you can book a visit for free to enjoy the beautiful London skyline and if you like, to have a nice drink in one of its fabulous bars. Other nice places I love to go to on weekends are food markets, where you can try new and tasty dishes from all parts of the world: Portobello, Borough Market, and Camden Market are just a few of them. London is also full of history and is excellent for education: there are so many famous museums to visit for free (Tate Modern, National Gallery, British Museum, and lots more), but also there are libraries where you can go to study or work on your assignments. For all these reasons London is the Best Student City by QS since 2018!
3. Embrace a multicultural and diverse environment
Among the things I love the most about living in London, meeting people from around the world is one of them. London is one of the world’s most diverse and multicultural cities, which means you will meet people from different countries with different food, culture, religion, and dress. You will learn every day about new cultures, ideas, and different ways of living. The University of Westminster is one of the best places where you can learn about integration and new cultures daily. Our institution is second among UK universities and 23rd globally for International Students! And to support the university’s international outlook, the Polylang Language Programme [GP3] is open to all students so they can learn languages such as Spanish, Chinese, German, Arabic, and lots more, improving their general communication skills, but also enhancing their career opportunities.
Studying at the university and meeting students and tutors from different backgrounds helped me to feel more confident as an international student than before, as I used to be very insecure about my accent and my mistakes and being part of a community that understands that our differences are what makes us unique, was essential.
4. Work opportunities and networking
In London, you can find paid internships or placements in all sorts of different industries, whether you’re studying or after graduation. During your time at the university, you will meet many professionals, both tutors and students, who will be the connections you want to keep as you progress in your career. Here, you will have the chance to find inspiration and job opportunities and discuss your ideas with other professionals like you!
5. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Studying in London will give you the opportunity to explore your creativity and understand what your specific talent is. It means that your days will never be the same in a city so wonderful, diverse, and open-minded, but also well connected by one of the world’s most innovative metro systems that give you the chance to travel and take short breaks during your studies. You will learn so much about yourself and the people around you, and you will become a young independent adult in the place that you will soon call home.
