BA in Global Trade and Business (top-up)<\/a> offers a unique and immersive learning experience. As part of this course, students from 2023\/24 embarked on a one-day trip to the EDF Sizewell Nuclear Power Station. Students also travelled on a two-day trip to Portsmouth in late April 2024. These trips organised and facilitated by Dr. Helen Solomon and led by Dr. Siriwan Hutangkabodee and Dr. Karen Jackson were designed to bring classroom knowledge to life.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The students got to appreciate the architecture of the nuclear power station, the role of nuclear power and how it supports the energy needs of businesses and consumers in the UK. The trip also enabled students to learn and appreciate the contribution of the power station to zero carbon electricity, the\u00a0net\u00a0zero\u00a0economy on global trade, and the opportunity it creates for businesses and community in the UK through its value chain.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The students visited Portico Shipping to witness firsthand the operations of global trade and border control. Travelling to Portsmouth, the trip to Portico Shipping showed how the principles of global trade and business are applied in real-world scenarios. Additionally, the visit to the \u00a0National Museum of the Royal Navy highlighted the historical significance of the British Royal Navy in the evolution of global trade and investment<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

This trip\u00a0 provided a perfect balance of leisure and learning. \u00a0On an educational level, the visit enabled students to learn three things:\u00a0<\/p>

1. How ports are at the heart of global trade and their significance in connecting the world spurring economic growth\u00a0<\/p>

2. The challenges faced by ports to be sustainable given its large carbon footprint\u00a0<\/p>

3. Increase awareness of a multitude of commercial activities within the realm of international trade.\u00a0<\/p>

From a leisure perspective, the trip to the Isle of Wight and an overnight stay allowed students to bond and create lasting memories, making it an ideal way to conclude the academic year on a high note.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
