In this year’s show, offset, students have explored issues that matter to them, translating research, personal interests, and cultural perspectives into thoughtful and engaging design outcomes. Their projects demonstrate not only technical skill and creative flair, but also a deep understanding of design’s role in shaping conversations, experiences, and communities.

Ahead of the show, we caught up with four students to hear more about their final-year projects and experience studying Graphic Design BA at Westminster.

1. All the hard work everyone has put into their projects over the last few months shown in one creative space. I am also excited to ‘release’ my own project into the world for audiences beyond the course to see, learn about and interact with. And to see how it will be experienced by someone who has not seen the development process behind it. As well as the weekly feedback from my project supervisor and other lecturers, who helped shape my project in the right direction, and gave me contacts for a publishing company, where I ended up printing my book.

Isabelle: The course provided a strong foundation in the fundamentals of graphic design before encouraging us to experiment and develop our own creative approaches. Rather than being thrown in at the deep end, I was able to build confidence in core design principles, research methods, and technical skills, which gave me the knowledge and freedom to tackle a more ambitious and personal final project.

Sabrina: I feel that Graphic Design at Westminster is a rich and rewarding course, both in terms of its content and the experiences it offers. Through lectures, workshops and visits to museums, design agencies and creative studios, I gained valuable insight into how graphic designers work within professional environments.

These experiences helped prepare me for my Final Major Project by developing not only my creative and technical skills, but also my ability to manage my time effectively and work independently. I learned the importance of creating a productive working environment that keeps me motivated, focused, and engaged throughout the design process, an approach that was reinforced by observing the professional practices of my tutors and industry practitioners.

Shredha: One thing I loved about my course was how unrestrictive it was. Over the past three years I was able to push the boundaries of what design meant to me and figure out which aspects of it I wanted to explore. That freedom helped me discover my passion for creative technology, and each project became a new challenge to incorporate different media and technology into my work, which led me naturally to where I am now with my final project.

3. It started with a personal experience: I experience Grapheme-Colour Synesthesia (all letters and numbers have a colour association for me), which sparked my interest in how it can be translated into visual graphic systems beyond the subconscious.

This project is an experimental publication which expands into an interactive installation to provide a sensory synesthetic experience. A designed encyclopaedia divided into academic and visual parts. It explains and defines Synesthesia from a scientific perspective, detailing its historical perspectives, characteristics, causes, association origins, and consequences. It investigates three chosen types of Synesthesia beyond my own experience which are Grapheme-Colour, Auditory-Tactile, and Sound-Colour Synesthesias. It visualises them through an experimental, multidisciplinary approach, expressing the perceptual reality of the synesthetic brain through graphic design.

Through experimental processes such as colour photograms and watergrams created in the darkroom, luminography, visual systems, and the translation of real to synesthetic colours, this publication is rooted in experimentation through making. Each chapter extends into an installation, forming concurrent synesthetic experiences in space and expanding beyond traditional forms of graphic design. This publication interacts with and responds to colour light and is made of visual systems which extend beyond the page.

Dorota Čechová – Graphic Design BA (2026)

Isabelle: My final project, The Space Between, is inspired by my Chinese and Turkish heritage and explores how shared experiences can create a sense of belonging across cultures. The inspiration came from two big parts of my life, my culture and the internet. Chayakkadas, or tea shops, have long been spaces of everyday community in Kerala. In collectivist cultures like India, gathering is built into daily life. Over time, these places don’t just host people, they hold their presence. You can see it in worn surfaces, familiar arrangements, and the quiet accumulation of memory.

The internet once promised something similar: a shared public space. But instead of deepening connection, it often prioritises speed, visibility, and performance. What we’re left with is a blurred line between real connection and its simulation.

Cache is an interactive installation that explores an alternative. It asks: what if the internet could age like a tea shop, slowly, visibly, and with memory? Visitors browse the web on a computer in the exhibition. As they move, pause, and explore, their activity is recorded and translated into a 3D stepwell. Paths become traces. Time spent becomes form. Each visit leaves their marks as small ASCII inscriptions and spatial imprints, on the steps.

Shredha Joseph – Graphic Design BA (2026)

4.What has been the highlight of your time on the course and at Westminster?

Dorota: Access to facilities ranging from printing studios, photography, and 3D workshops to darkrooms is one of my favourite things that Westminster provides, and I was able to use all of them during the creation of my Final Major Project. The course provided us with a clear structure and base of graphic design principles and gave us space to experiment and develop our own interests within the practice. This, for me, meant exploring the more abstract and experimental way of image-making. What also stands out is the number of studio visits, guest speakers, and workshops we had on the course, and how this allowed us to build a network in the design industry. And lastly, a highlight of my time at Westminster has been the people that I have met in this university, friends, colleagues, tutors who have shaped this experience for me into a great one.

Dorota Čechová – Graphic Design BA (2026)

Isabelle: One of the highlights has been having access to a wide range of workshops and facilities, which allowed me to experiment with processes such as screen printing, laser cutting, and interactive design. It was a unique and challenging experience because it pushed me to work outside my comfort zone and connect with people everywhere I went. I had the opportunity to expand my creative abilities, develop my taste, discover my niche, and meet people from so many different fields. All of that fed back into my work in ways I didn’t expect. If I had to pick one moment though, I’d say taking part in a hackathon that not only pushed my skills but also came with a cash prize. Which, let’s be honest, is always a bonus! But more seriously, having access to those kinds of opportunities as a student felt important, and Westminster was great for that.

5.What are your plans for the future after graduation, and what are your career aspirations?

Dorota: My goals for the future are to continue my design practice and research, combining multidisciplinary and experimental approaches, and to apply what I have learned. One day, hopefully, I will see more of the world and be able to work and live in different cities and blend more of the creative sectors in my practice.

Isabelle: After graduation, I hope to work within the film industry, particularly in graphic prop design. I’m interested in creating visual assets, printed materials, and interactive objects that contribute to world-building and on-screen storytelling.

Sabrina: I plan to continue developing my personal projects in branding and editorial design, using them as an opportunity to strengthen my portfolio. I will also continue sharing my work on social media to connect with fellow creatives, engage with the wider design community, and build my professional presence.

Alongside this, I intend to pursue opportunities within design studios and agencies, drawing on the industry connections and exposure I have gained through my tutors. Their guidance has already introduced me to professional networks, and I look forward to building on these relationships as I begin my career in design.

Shredha: I want to keep working with people who excite me and help bring crazy visions to life. But I think there’s a lot of experimenting to do before that, to understand more about my own practice. I want to start by working with studios and designers I genuinely respect in the industry. I feel like that’s the best way to learn more about myself and where I want to go.

About Westminster

As one of the most diverse universities in the UK, we are a global university with London energy, with more than 19,000 students from 169 countries.
