Measuring “green value”: An international perspective

The present research aims to broaden the existing evidence base using new data sources while at the same time deepening the research on the dynamics of the well-researched markets such as the US office market using more extensive and more in-depth datasets. Three international case studies of ‘green value’ were conducted (one each in Finland, Japan and the United States) and conclusions drawn from these results regarding the existence of a green premium across countries and property types.

Marriott International has released its 2014 Sustainability Report, available this year as 10 separate and concise issue reports, sharing the company’s progress against a 2007 baseline, including a nearly 13 percent decrease in water intensity, 11 percent decrease in energy intensity, and a 12 percent decrease in greenhouse gas emissions intensity.

Capacity Building for Sustainable Urban Transport (CAPSUT) is an international platform, dedicated to capacity building in sustainable urban transport. Developed by GIZ-SUTP, the website has contributions from partners spread across the world mainly the bilateral or multilateral organizations, academia, government institutions, NGOs and other relevant stakeholders. The portal has two main sections: 1. The training, webinars and e-learning section which lists information about current and future training activities provided both on-site at many locations across the globe and/or with various partner organization. It also list online and e-learning courses that are currently being held and/or under development. 2. The Resources section which hosts a wealth of information available for download on various topics related to sustainable urban transport. It includes material developed by GIZ-SUTP since 2003 and also material from other institutions. These documents have been written by experts in their respective fields and range from introductory level materials to detailed technical information.

Since 2002, the EMBARQ network has expanded to Mexico, Brazil, China, India, Turkey and the Andean Region, collaborating with local transport authorities to reduce pollution, improve public health, and create safe, accessible and attractive urban public spaces. The network employs more than 120 experts in fields ranging from architecture to air quality management; geography to journalism; and sociology to civil and transport engineering.

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s Destination Development Program

In February 2014, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) in partnership with Sustainable Travel International hosted a live virtual educational presentation with over 300 registrations from around the world. The webinar was presented by Dr. Kelly Bricker, Chair of the GSTC Board, as well as Dr. Louise Twining-Ward and Jeremy Sampson from Sustainable Travel International. Some of the attendees included Kuoni Travel, The Nature Conservancy, PATA, Royal Caribbean, Rainforest Alliance, Sabre Holdings, and numerous ministries of tourism and regional tourism organizations. During the 60-minute interactive gathering, Lara Velasco of Turismo Lanzarote and Dr. Lars Lindkvist of Kenya’s Mara Naboisho Conservancy showcased their “Early Adopter” experience, the first initiative in the Destination Partnership Program. This webinar was the first held in a series of informational programs to put sustainability efforts in the spotlight. Slides and a video recording are available online.
