We are one of the oldest walking clubs in the country, formed in 1885 as a social club of the then Regent Street Polytechnic, now the University of Westminster. Although no longer affiliated, today we are happy to retain our association with the University and have several ex-members of staff and alumni among our current membership. We welcome members of all ages and backgrounds.
We have a varied programme with a day walk almost every weekend of the year. We also organise several weekends away each year in the UK and continental Europe. Recent trips include the Dolomites, the Scottish Borders and East Devon. Our 2020 planned trips include snow walking in Austria in January and a spring bank holiday long weekend in the Alsace region of France. There will also be a trip organised for the August bank holiday weekend and an autumn weekend away in October.
All our walks and other activities are based around public transport. Our day walks are mainly around London and the home counties and are typically 7-11 miles but can range from 5-13 miles depending on the time of year. On day walks we usually stop at a pub for lunch or a drink. We also have occasional social events including restaurant and theatre visits.
The annual membership fee is £8. There is a one-off joining fee of £3 for which new members receive a copy of the Club’s history book ‘Walking Through The Years’. There is no charge for walks.
You are welcome to try us out for up to two walks before we ask you to join us as a member. You can find details of our current programme on our website: www.polyramblers.org.uk
