Hey there, Westminster students and recent graduates! Have you ever felt those nerves kick in and struggled to speak confidently in front of others? Whether it be a presentation, a debate, or a talk. Trust me, I’ve been there, and you’re not alone. I felt the same way until I discovered the We Speak Programme, which changed everything.
What is the We Speak Programme?
The We Speak Programme is a 4-week online programme designed to empower individuals like you and me to become confident speakers and communicators. It aims to elevate your speaking skills through structured tasks and personalised mentoring.
My Experience with the We Speak Programme
Joining the We Speak Programme was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I embarked on different weekly speaking tasks, from impromptu speeches to discussing hobbies and job interviews. For example, following a structure to prepare for my talk and learning how to conduct myself when talking, such as having enthusiasm, using my body language, my speed, and talking naturally. These tasks pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow as a communicator and be confident when speaking.
One of the programme’s most valuable aspects and highlights was meeting with facilitators and mentors from leading companies like Just Eat and Investec. Their expertise and guidance provided invaluable insights into their effective communication strategies and public speaking techniques. It was a friendly and supportive environment, especially when you are nervous and feel less confident speaking.
The Benefits of the We Speak Programme
Participating in the We Speak Programme has been a game-changer for me. Not only did it support me in improving my fear of speaking in public, but it also equipped me with essential communication skills that are invaluable in both personal and professional settings.
One of the highlights of my journey with the programme was receiving feedback from the facilitators and mentors. Their feedback and words of positivity and encouragement motivated me to strive for excellence and continuously improve my speaking abilities. Feedback from both highlighted my confidence, extensive knowledge, enthusiasm, and well-structured delivery. The mentors and facilitators were lovely, warm, and approachable. The friendly vibe of the programme made each session something to look forward to.
