Starting a Community

 Starting a Community

Starting a community at the university is an exciting opportunity to bring together like-minded individuals and explore new ideas. Whether you have a specific proposal in mind or are just beginning to gather members, the process is straightforward and supported by the Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation (CETI).

Applying to Set Up a Community

If you already have a proposal in mind and have agreed on the members of your community and would like to request funding for your community, fill in the application form.

(You will need to be logged into your staff Google account to access the form).

Even if you don’t require funding for your community we would still like you to formally establish your community through the CETI so we can build a full picture of communities emerging around the University and so that you can join in and benefit from being part of this forum of communities. If you already have a proposal in mind and have agreed the members of your community but are not seeking funding, fill in the application form giving us some details about your community.

Potential communities are strongly encouraged to read the Westminster Learning Communities Guidance before proceeding with their registration or application.

All Registered Communities

All registered communities – funded and unfunded – will be provided a dedicated area on the
Communities page to share their outputs and host discussion forums.

Funding will be available in 2024/25 for communities whose applications are successful. The amount of funding available will depend on the number of successful applications. Applications will be considered by a panel and there will be rolling application rounds. Keep an eye on these pages for more information about the next deadline for submission of application forms.

Generating Ideas and Finding Members

If you would like to start a community and are looking for members, place a call on the Marketplace.

If you would like to join a community, check out the Communities page for more information on the communities currently running. Or you can visit the Marketplace where you can find calls from colleagues who wish to start a community and are seeking members.

From time to time the Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation will also issue a call for a community to be established around a particular theme or responding to a particular priority emerging at the University – keep an eye on the Marketplace for more information.

Events will also be held for colleagues to come together and identify, collectively, areas which would benefit from further exploration by a learning community.
