You are warmly invited to a Westminster Learning Communities event on Universal Design for Learning on Thursday 23rd November 10.00am-2pm
Where: Fyvie Hall, Regent Street (working lunch 1pm-2pm)
THRIVE (Thought-Rewarding and lnclusive Value-Led Education) Westminster Learning Community, supported by The Centre for Teaching Innovation (CTI) is hosting an event on Universal Design for Learning and ways to implement it.
Dr Abigail Moriarty, University Director of Teaching and Learning at De Montfort University will talk about:
-How De Montfort University has embedded Universal Design for Learning and who was involved in the process
-How academic staff pursued Universal Design through the validation and revalidation of courses:
-What was the role of the UDL Champions, the implementation stages and how Universal Design for Learning was aligned with TEF.
The main principle of the Universal Design for Learning approach is to embed inclusivity and choice for both lecturers and students and to make Course design equitable for all. It provides all students with a variety of ways of engaging with their learning and teaching experience and ensuring that lecturers account for the different learning styles of individual students wherever possible.
The choice of speaker from De Montfort University is based on the fact that De Montfort’s Universal Design for Learning strategic approach has been praised by HEFCE and has been selected to be one of the case studies in a review of models of support for all students and not just disabled students.
