THRIVE success at the International Conference on Inclusive Universities
In March this year, Daniela de Silva, THRIVE Community Lead, successfully submitted an abstract and was subsequently invited to present a talk on Embedding Inclusive Course Design at the International Conference on Inclusive Universities at the University of Education Salzburg, Stefan Zweig.
The conference took place on the 18 and 19 October and Daniela talked about the distinctiveness of the University of Westminster as a diverse learning community. Also elaborating on the strategic impact, the benefits of the inclusive approach and the development of the online i-THRIVE Inclusive Course Design Checklist for academic staff.
The Westminster Learning Community, THRIVE devised, through the involvement of academic staff, a self- assessment tool i-THRIVE which helps Course and Module Leaders assess and improve the level of inclusivity of every aspect of their course (resources, learning and teaching and assessments). The checklist is aligned with the University of Westminster Pedagogical Principles.
The talk also presented the checklist in detail alongside the self-evaluation report it generates. The i-THRIVE checklist for academic staff was very well received by colleagues from other European universities. The colleagues said that it was “Inspirational” and expressed an interest in using the checklist and visiting the University of Westminster in the future.
