A day of inspiring talks, peer-led research presentations, and meaningful conversations around our theme: Inclusive by Design: Education for a Changing World!

This theme sits at the very heart of both WBS and University strategy, reflecting our shared commitment to equity, compassionate pedagogy, and creating learning environments where every student can thrive.

The day featured:

• Antoniette Mills (Director of Communications, The Case Centre) on the essentials of case writing

• Daniel Singham (Yonder Data Solutions & WBS Strategic Advisory Board) on why inclusive education matters for the future of work

• Cherise Basslian (Director of Careers & Student Enterprise, University of East London) on rethinking talent for a changing world

• Our very own Professor Christos Kalantaridis on Inclusion by Design at WBS

👥 Student Voice – we are also very happy to be joined by students who shared what inclusive learning design means to them. Their perspectives are at the centre of everything we do, and hearing directly from them promises to be a highlight of the day. This was a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues, celebrate the innovative work happening across our College, and explore how we can continue to lead on inclusive education together.

Webinar Title: Transforming Course Design Learning through Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

In partnership with CETI – Talkteaching, the webinar attracted 86 participants from the UK, Canada, Ireland, and the United States, demonstrating the network’s growing international reach and relevance. present findings from a co-created research project at Westminster Business School, drawing directly on undergraduate and postgraduate student perspectives. This one-hour online session shared findings from a co-created research project conducted at Westminster Business School, exploring how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can enhance engagement and inclusivity in business education. Drawing on survey data from 71 undergraduate and postgraduate students (January–March 2025) and 11 semi-structured interviews (April–June 2025), the study examined students’ perceptions of UDL across learning materials, assessment, motivation and engagement.. Feedback highlighted the value of student agency in learning design, with one participant noting: “I have learnt how insightful and impactful it can be offering students choice / flexibility in assessment and learning tools; the value is in the sense / perception of agency rather than in the actual options.”

The I-BEE Network recently marked an important milestone with the delivery of its first event, bringing together colleagues committed to advancing Impactful Business Education Excellence. This interactive I-BEE workshop explored how gamification can be strategically embedded into higher education teaching to strengthen active learning, motivation and participation. Designed for colleagues seeking evidence-informed, technology-enabled approaches, the session examined practical examples of Poll Everywhere (PE) Competitions implemented at Westminster Business School. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how structured use of points, pace and friendly competition can foster engagement while supporting inclusive classroom dynamics. The workshop demonstrated how gamification moves beyond novelty by aligning digital tools with clear pedagogic intent, enhancing formative feedback and real-time interaction. Nwe Zin Shaung (Lecturer, School of Management and Marketing) reflected:
“Attending the workshop really helped me see how digital tools can make learning more active and engaging, and how the Competition quickly creates a sense of excitement and friendly challenge among participants. I left the session feeling more confident about utilising Poll Everywhere Competitions for my teaching sessions”
