Hello folks!!
My name is Fatima Bintay Abid and in this blog post, I would like to share a bit about myself. I was born in Lahore, Pakistan and was raised in Dubai. So when people ask me where I’m from, it’s of great confusion to me as well cause I’m not sure about that myself. And now I’m living in London and currently studying BA (Hons) in Business Management (Accounting) at the University of Westminster after completing an International Year One at Kaplan who helped guide me to the perfect university degree for me at Westminster.
Life in Dubai
I’ve spent most of my life in Dubai, as I was raised there. I undertook primary and secondary years of schooling at ‘Arab Unity School’ situated in Mirdif. Life in Dubai is as a lot like how we see on TV. Lots of partying, lots of events, lots of places to visit and lots of new experiences around the corner. I was lucky enough to experience these things with two of my best friends, Daniyal and Diyanah. I’ve been friends with both of them for years now and both of them play a very important role in my life.
Unlike London, Dubai’s weather is hot and dry thus there’s lost of outdoor places to visit. One of my go to places in Dubai has to be Jumeirah Beach. The calming sound of the waves mixed with the breezy moist air blowing my hair from my face is one of the many feels I miss.
My favourite Dubai attractions
I’m a person who LOVES theme parks and rollercoasters, and to my luck Dubai had tons of those. Because of my love for them my Dad had gotten me an annual pass for IMG worlds of adventure. This theme park is the largest indoor theme park in the world. I used to visit this place every 2 weeks and I would never get bored of it. The atmosphere was always filled with thrill and almost every minute you could hear someone scream. Unlike other theme parks IMG also had a separate section for kids with lots of cartoons from Cartoon Network, like Ben10, The Amazing World of Gumball. My point being, no matter what age group you are, I can assure you that it will be an adventure you will never forget.
Another exciting thing about Dubai is the thousands of attractions built there. Like I said, living in Dubai was like experiencing a whole new adventure every week. One of my favorite attractions of Dubai has to be ‘The Dubai Frame’. I visited the frame a few months before moving to London and I’m glad I can check that off of my bucket list. The best part about Dubai Frame is that it shows you two aspects of Dubai. One being old Dubai and the other being New Dubai. Nowadays, people only know Dubai for its success, but do not know the struggle it went through to get where it is today. Dubai Frame outlines it by presenting how Dubai looked a few years ago from one of the balconies and the famous new Dubai from the other.
It also has a similar flooring plan to the top of Tower Bridge, so you can see where you’re walking. Take a look yourself!!
Interests
I’m a person who does not like sitting idle and loves to be in motion all of the time. Weird right? Either ways, my favorite thing to do in my free time has to be cooking or baking. You’re at advantage if you’re a friend cause I’ll make sure you’re always fed and never have an empty stomach. My favorite food to cook has to be Alfredo pasta. It’s my go-to food as well.
Another thing I really enjoy is painting and embroidery. These activities help me relax after a tiring day. And obviously, Netflix!! My favorite show has to be The Vampire Diaries with Damon being my favorite character. And lastly, I really enjoy editing videos as well and this has to be one of my favourite things to do to pass time.
Career
I’ve always loved playing with numbers, so when the time came for me to decide my future, I was sure of what I wanted to do. Business and accounts. I’ve studied in Dubai my whole life and I wanted to try out something different and new and was sure I wanted to study abroad. Since I was a child I wanted to travel to London. My decision to study abroad gave me a chance to make it happen. Kaplan guided me to the perfect university degree I wanted to pursue. BA (Hons) in Business Management (Accounting). The idea was to study my first year of undergraduate at Kaplan and then proceed to Westminster to continue my studies.
I chose this program to help me achieve my dream of being a highly qualified accountant with the qualifications of ACCA and ICAEW and starting this course was my first step towards it. This major is helping me with the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of accounting in our business environment. I believe myself to be hardworking as well as ambitious and passionate when it comes to the things I’ve aspired to achieve in my life. I believe that one day I will accomplish these goals of mine.
This has to be the shortest summary I could give about myself, with the tiny details here and there. I really hope to blog more and let you guys know a bit more about myself and my life soon. So, stay tuned!!
