Investigating the impact of economic reforms on the construction cost management system in China

This report examines the impact that the introduction of economic reforms have had on cost management practices in the Chinese construction industry. The enormity of this change presents many challenges in terms of cost engineering education, professional development and professional standards. The changes also present many opportunities for cost management professionals both within China and around the globe as the market is now open to international participation. Accordingly, the aims of this report are to examine how the industry has managed this rapid transformation in cost management practices, to identify the main issues and problems and to develop recommendations to help address these issues and problems.
