Unlocking growth in cities: city deals – wave 1

The Government’s programme of city deals aims to help unlock their full potential, providing a major shift in the powers and levers available to local leaders and businesses to drive growth. The first wave of city deals has focused on the eight largest cities outside London and their wider economic areas. Each deal is bespoke and reflects the different needs of individual places but every deal aims to: Give cities the powers and tools they need to drive local economic growth; Unlock projects or initiatives that will boost their economies; and Strengthen the governance arrangements of each city. This document reports on the progress made in wave 1 and provides a summary of the city deals.
