Animations on sustainable building solutions

Sustainable Business Building Solutions, part of the Travis Perkins Group, has developed a series of LABC registered animations that detail how to build within efficiency regulations using traditional building methods. The first four animations are now available to view on the SBS website and feature new build solutions for installing windows, ground floor beam and block construction, intermediate floor installation and the creation of a non-habitable roof. Further installation videos, featuring retrofit projects will be released in the near future.

Common concerns about wind power

The Centre for Sustainable Energy hosted a free webinar on 31 July which covered the myths and realities about wind power, as covered in its publication Common concerns about wind power. Presented by the report’s author and independent science writer, Iain Cox, from his home in Texas, it had CSE’s technical expert Martin Holley on hand to give a UK perspective and was hosted by CSE’s James Watt. The webinar consisted of a 30 minute talk covering the main issues, followed by a 15 minute Q&A.

Funding low carbon cities: Mapping the risks and opportunities

The Centre for Low Carbon Futures has published a report in its Climate Smart Cities programme. The objective of the paperĀ is to provide a contemporary account of how UK local authorities might approach the question of how to ensure the funding of retrofits and investments in low carbon options, with a particular focus on the major obstacles that need to be overcome and the key financial and non-financial risks that need to be managed.

Feedback on the National BIM Library so far

The National BIM Library is a free resource for the UK construction industry, created in an attempt to provide quality BIM content that is authored to an open standard. Four months after the launch of the National BIM Library, on 17 July a number of BIM experts were invited to take part in the first National BIM Library user day in order to gain valuable feedback.

World Cities Culture Report 2012

The Greater London Authority has published a report, described as the biggest international survey of its kind. It has collected data on the scope and impact of the cultural assets and activities in 12 major cities. The World Cities Culture Report 2012 was commissioned by the Mayor of London and the London Cultural Strategy Group in partnership with nine of the cities featured in it. It has collected an unprecedented amount of data on the scope and impact of the cultural assets and activities that are produced and consumed in 12 major cities.
